Solid Gold does not contain any of the following ingredients: NO SOYBEAN, WHEAT, OR CORN. Soybean, wheat and corn are the #1, #2, and #3 cause of all allergies in dogs. Signs and symptoms of allergies include the following: scratching at the root of the tail, licking the feet and coat, as well as biting at the coat. Many dog foods contain soybean, however, soybean curd is an incomplete protein and does not contain all the essential amino acids necessary for the body to break down the protein and utilize it. NO ANIMAL FAT OR POULTRY FAT. Before these fats can be added to dry dog food, they must be dehydrated. Through the dehydration process these fats become rancid. According to the Surgeon General these rancid fats contribute to cancer, arthritis, and heart disease. NO WHEAT GLUTEN, RICE GLUTEN, OR CORN GLUTEN. Glues such as these are added to foods to keep the rancid fats in the body longer. For example, as rancid fats enter the body, the body tries to rid itself of the waste through diarrhea. By adding glues to the food these rancid fats are slowly metabolized, thus preventing diarrhea. NO BEET PULP. Beet pulp is the same thing as sugar. Sugar can be contributed to causing a reddish tinge to a black coat, dandruff, and dry skin. Sugars are also added to slow metabolism of the rancid fats. NO POULTRY BY PRODUCTS. Poultry by products can include chicken beaks, feet, and feathers. NO ANIMAL DIGEST. Animal digest can include full guts, which also mean its contents could include manure. NO CHICKEN. A 60 Minutes TV program surveyed chicken processing plants and found that 58% of the chickens had salmonella poisoning. Unfit for human consumption, but yet, sold as a major ingredient in many dog foods. NO SUNFLOWER/SAFFLOWER OR CORN OILS. These vegetable oils contain an unbalanced amount of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids. A greater abundance of Omega 6 fatty acids contribute to tumor formation. Cancer is one the leading cause of death in dogs. NO WHITE RICE. Many dog foods use rice as the main nutritional ingredient, but white rice is missing 75% of its nutrients especially B Vitamins. Whole brown rice contains more nutritional value than white rice and thus is used in both Hund-N-Flocken and Hundchen Flocken. NO BREWERS RICE. Brewers rice is the broken grain of white rice. Since white rice is missing 75% of its nutrients, the nutritional value provided from brewers rice, if any, is highly questionable. NO VITAMIN C. Vitamin C can never be used as a preservative in dog food as Vitamin C is destroyed by heat (through cooking the food) and also is destroyed when exposed to light. Vitamin C lasts only 12 hours after exposed to air. NOT PRESERVED WITH VITAMIN E. Vitamin E lasts only 1 month as a preservative. If Vitamin E is added to dog food during the cooking process, the vitamin is changed from a form known as SIC to the TRANS form (may cause tumors to form). Solid Gold uses Vitamin E in its dog formulas, but the Vitamin E is added to the food after the cooling process and not touted as a preservative. NO ETHOXYQUIN. Before the FDA approved ethoxyquin, it was characterized as a poison. The makers of ethoxyquin state it is a hazardous chemical and issued warnings and precautionary measures stating: ETHOXYQUIN MAY CAUSE SKIN AND EYE PROBLEMS, AS WELL AS, KIDNEY AND LIVER PROBLEMS. NO BHT OR BHA. Some companies buy meat that already contains BHT and BHA. The advantage of this practice is that BHT, BHA, and ethoxyquin is not then required to be listed as an ingredient in the food as the preservative was not added by the company. The lamb meat used in the HUND-N-FLOCKEN and HUNDCHEN FLOCKEN formulas is USDA approved, inspected on arrival to the United States and again at the manufacturer. Solid Gold also has their food analyzed and can certify that there is no additives or preservatives in their food. NO SALT OR SUGAR ADDED. |
